In light of the VMA’s that are airing tonight, we thought we should applaud a few artists on their work that has gotten us through the year and inform you on projects that haven’t been released yet. Here are a few winners in our book. Check it out below.

Most Slept On: Mac Miller

If you didn’t know, Mac Miller has been killing on the production tip. You can catch some of his latest work on SZA’s EP ‘Z’ and Ab-Soul’s ‘These Days…’ We can always rock with some who raps and produces.

Most Consistent/Relevant: Drake

Drake never fails us. Hate all you want but the man is consistent and he knows how to stay relevant in a game where new artists are entering everyday. The man is good, really good.

Breakthrough Artist of ’14: PARTYNEXTDOOR

When Party dropped his first mixtape last summer a lot of people slept on it for a while and I’m sure they regretted very second they missed out on it. Drake sure knows how to pick his team and Party is surely a gem. He’s the perfect choice whenever you’re deciding what tape you should ride out to. His latest joint, PARTYNEXTDOOR TWO, can be played straight thru…no skips. If you’re late to the party thank us later.

Best unexpected banger of the Summer: Trigga by Trey Songz

Honestly, Trey hasn’t dropped any real heat since Ready and that was a while back. Mr. Steal Your Girl is definitely back and Trigga is a great start for a comeback. He has features from Ty Dolla $ign, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber and more.

Best Collab Artist: Chris Brown

It’s been a rocky road for Chris and it seems like he can’t stay out of trouble but one thing we’re sure about is his amazing chemistry with other artists. Chris Brown’s hook game has been A1 and now that he’s out of jail we can’t wait to hear what else we’ll be playing for the rest of the summer. His new album is set to be released on September 16th!

Most Philanthropic: 50 Cent

Sure 50 may be a comedian and throw shots at people on Instagram, but he really does have a heart underneath all those muscles. He knows how to make his money and also knows how to give back. He is a very successful businessman and his G-Unity foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations that help low income communities.

Most Anticipated Project: PinkSlime (EP from Pharrell & Mac Miller)

This project has been on and off again since last year but the two have confirmed that 2014 is the year. Hopefully they are able to get it done between both of their busy schedules because an EP from them will be production heaven!
We also can’t hear new projects from Sampha, Frank Ocean, Chris Brown and Big Krit.

Funniest Moment: Solange vs. Jay Z

No one saw this one coming at all which makes it an even funnier/wtf moment. There were always rumors surrounding Solange’s relationship with her brother-in-law Jay but we didn’t think we’d actually see the distaste for him go viral!

Best Artists to Vibe to: Dom Kennedy & Jhenè

Whenever you just want to vibe out with your friends on the nice relaxing summer day, Dom and Jhenè are great choices. Wouldn’t say Dom is the most lyrical rapper, but he knows how to ride the beat with his nostalgic voice. Jhenè knows how to stay in her range and I’m sure many can relate to her lyrics. These two are totally different lyrically but share those smooth Cali vibes.

Best Multitalented Artist: Childish Gambino

Gambino can rock any stage whether it’s performing hits off of his latest album Because of the Internet or doing a stand up comedy show. He was a writer for the NBC series 30 Rock and an actor on the well known Community. He may have said he was the best rapper alive and that may be a stretch but we still think Gambino is a very talented artist who has proved that he can do it all.
